When to Book a Newborn Photo Shoot

I assume if you are reading this post that congratulations are in order! It is such an exciting time as you wait for the arrival of your new baby. If this is your first child it can seem like a very overwhelming time. There are so many things to get ready and prepare for before your baby is born. If this isn’t your first child you have some experience, but the days still get busy the closer it gets to baby’s arrival. If you are interested in a newborn photo shoot for your little one there are some things to know before the big day.

Call while you are still pregnant

Scheduling a newborn photo shoot with a newborn photographer can be a little tricky. After all, unless you are having a scheduled c-section you don’t really know exactly when your baby will arrive. And, even with a scheduled delivery date, your baby could still decide to come early. 

Your best bet is to call your photographer at the start of your second trimester. This allows you to discuss the details with the photographer and make sure that they have availability around your due date. As your dates gets closer make sure you keep your photographer in the loop with any news you have. If your doctor decides to take the baby early, give them a quick heads up. 

Don’t forget to ask your photographer about doing a maternity photo session. Many photographers will offer a discount for parents that do both a maternity session and a newborn session. And, it’s a great way to document this exciting time. 

 

Once your newborn has arrived

When your baby has arrived you should contact your newborn photographer with the details. This is the time to set up the specific appointment for your newborn photo shoot. It’s a given that you will be tired during those first few weeks after your baby is born. However, this is the ideal time for your newborn session. The ideal time is when your baby is between 7 and 21 days old. 

 

 

You want to capture the precious newborn stage that passes so quickly. This is when their legs still fold up near their tummies and they can easily be positioned into poses that they will stay in. This is also the stage when your newborn will spend the majority of their day sleeping. You and Your Baby deserve to have this precious time professionally captured for you!
