Some families just stay with you and you become great Friends —and Jena and Luis are exactly that.

I still remember photographing them with their first baby girl, back when everything felt brand new and a little bit unknown. Fast forward to now, and here they are again… a little more experienced, a little more relaxed, and somehow even more connected. Watching families grow like this is one of the quiet privileges of this job.

This image says so much without trying too hard. The way Luis leans in, Jena completely at ease, their little girl perched happily, and even the pup (Oso) joining in—it feels like a snapshot of their everyday love. Nothing forced, nothing overdone. Just them, exactly as they are right now. Of course, big-sister-to-be in the center.

Jena carries this calm confidence into motherhood that’s hard to miss. There’s a softness to her, but also a grounded strength—like she knows exactly what matters. And Luis balances it perfectly, steady and playful all at once.

And then there are these moments. The in-between, slightly chaotic, laughter-filled seconds that always end up being everyone’s favorite. ( You will definitely catch me saying ‘the more chaos, the better’). Their daughter upside down, giggling, completely trusting her dad—while Jena looks on with that mix of amusement and “this is my life now.” It’s real, it’s joyful, and it’s exactly what this season looks like.

Photographing families the second (or third) time around always feels different and these guys are certainly becoming total pros when it comes to their photo sessions. 😉

And then, this.

A quiet pause in the middle of it all. Jena, just before everything changes again. There’s something really special about carving out a moment like this—away from the movement and noise—to simply slow down for a moment and take deep breath.  To take in the the anticipation, the strength, the beauty of it… it doesn’t need anything extra.

This next baby is already so loved. Not just by Jena and Luis, but by a big sister who’s about to step into her new role, and by a family that already feels so full.

Getting to document their story again—this chapter, right before everything shifts—is something I don’t take lightly. These aren’t just sessions anymore. They’re milestones in a relationship that has grown over time, and I’m so grateful to be part of it.

I already can’t wait to meet the newest little one.
