FEATURED: Miranda Richardson | Doula services Grand Junction
This is the first chapter of something new and super exciting!
I partnered up with other local birth professionals to bring the best services to our clients. Part of those services is helping You getting to know local birth professionals. I will be featuring a member of the birth community every month.
My first featured birth professional is: Miranda Richardson.
Miranda is the owner of Ten Moons Birth, Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis instructor and Hypno-Doula. She is also the manager of GJ Birth Collective and BirthSmart’s Birth & Baby Expo lead.
Csilla: Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of your profession.
Miranda: I am a Western Colorado native, born in Glenwood Springs, raised in Nucla, and reside in Grand Junction. I’m a mother of three boys. (4 if you count my husband!) My babies were all born in different places. Our first boy was born at Montrose Memorial Hospital, our second was born at home in Grand Junction, and our third was born at Bloomin’ Babies Birth Center in Grand Junction.
Csilla: Could you explain to our Moms what the difference is between a doula and a midwife?
Miranda: I get the question all the time! The main difference, and probably most important, is that a midwife provides medical care and a doula provides emotional, physical and informational support. I don’t “deliver” babies. The midwife does. If we want to get really technical… the birthing mother actually delivers her baby. I encourage my clients to give themselves the power in their birth and change the wording when they talk about delivery and call it their birth!
Csilla: Why does a future Mom need a doula?
Miranda: We have lost our way in the birth room as the medical way has taken over. Doulas reduce the need of medical interventions like epidurals, inductions and pain medications. Although, doulas support mamas no matter how they want to give birth. If they WANT medications then their doula will certainly support them. They are actually a constant support during their birthing time. Nurses, midwives and doctors pop in and out of the birthing room as they have charting and other patients to take care of. Sometimes the staff works in shifts and a family will have several different providers during their birth. A doula, stays with a mom the entire time. No matter how long the birthing is.
Csilla: When is the best time to contact a doula?
Miranda: The best time to contact a doula is any time. I’ve had clients hire me at 12 weeks gestation and even on their babies birthday! Usually a doula will meet with the family 3 times to really to get to know the clients, find out how to best support them, provide information about birthing choices and help the family find a path that best suits them. I love providing support to families in this monumental period of their lives!
Csilla: What exactly is Hypnobabies, or a hypno doula?
Miranda: Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis is a method of childbirth preparation that teaches deep hypnosis techniques, imagery and visualization to re-train the inner mind in a very positive way, which helps to lessen and in many cases eliminate discomfort and fear from the birthing experience. With adequate preparation, and in the absence of complications, our Hypno-mothers can experience more comfortable, shorter and easier births.
Thank you Miranda, for sharing your insights about doula services in Grand Junction! We are excited to work with You in the future!
