There’s something truly special about being invited back into a family’s life again and again to capture their milestones. When Jade and Lucas reached out to me to photograph their newest little love, Stella, it felt like catching up with old friends. I’ve had the joy of photographing their older two, Shivaun and Finley, before (see their sessions here and here)—and watching them grow and now step into their roles as big sister and big brother was the sweetest full-circle moment.
Our professional newborn family session in Grand Junction was all about love, laughter, and a touch of that beautiful sibling chaos that makes family photos so real. Baby Stella was the star of the day, of course, but seeing how much her siblings adored her gave the whole session extra heart. Shivaun, with her big-sister instincts, wanted to help, cuddle, and ALWAYS KISS her baby sister. Finley was equally proud and such a mature and caring big brother.
I always tell families that newborn sessions aren’t just about the baby—they’re about the family story as a whole. That was so true here. Watching Jade and Lucas settle into life as a family of five was beautiful. They were relaxed, joyful, and full of glow that only comes with such deep love. It’s the kind of energy that makes photographing families in Western Colorado such a rewarding job.
For Stella’s portraits, we leaned into soft tones and natural light to highlight her tiny features. She gave us the sweetest expressions and even a little stretch that looked like she was already practicing her dance moves. The siblings joined in for a few snuggly moments that perfectly captured the mix of tenderness and playfulness. These are the kinds of images I know will be treasured years from now—when Stella isn’t so little and when Shivaun and Finley are telling her stories about when she first came home.
Photographing families like Stella’s is the reason I love being a Grand Junction newborn photographer. Every session is unique, every child brings their own personality, and every family tells a new chapter in their story. I’m so grateful I’ve been able to capture Shivaun and Finley over the years, and now baby Stella completes the trio. Sessions like this remind me why professional newborn and family photography matters so much—it’s about documenting love in its truest form, right here in the heart of Western Colorado.
