Some sessions seem to check every box. Ashley and Zach’s maternity session included gorgeous evening light, a stunning location, two dogs who were convinced they should be involved in every photograph, and a baby who will be making an appearance very soon.

This portrait of Ashley felt like the perfect place to start. The soft colors, beautiful light, and peaceful setting all came together effortlessly. As much fun as the dogs were and as many great images as we captured throughout the evening, this photograph stands out as one of my favorites from the session.

One of my favorite images from the evening features Ashley holding the ultrasound photos while the two of them share a quiet moment together. Those little black-and-white images make everything feel a little more real. Soon they’ll have a baby in their arms, but for now they’re getting to enjoy the anticipation.
The setting couldn’t have been more beautiful. With lush greenery, towering trees, and some of the iconic scenery that makes Western Colorado so special, there seemed to be a perfect backdrop around every corner.

This image quickly became one of my favorites from the session. The soft evening light, the mountain backdrop, and the way Zach is looking at Ashley create such a timeless portrait. It feels calm and romantic without trying too hard, and perfectly captures this chapter in their story.
And then there were the dogs.
Maisy, their Australian Shepherd, and Zara, their schnauzer, arrived ready to participate in every part of the session. Whether they were sitting nicely for portraits or running around exploring, they made sure their presence was known.

I always love when families include their dogs because they are such a big part of everyday life. Years from now, these photographs won’t just remind Ashley and Zach what they looked like while expecting their baby. They’ll remind them of the season when Maisy and Zara were their entire world and happily joining them for every adventure.
The pups were on a quick water break and we couldn’t help but adding another feature photo of the evergreens, the Monument and this awesome couple just having a sweet moment together.

Of course, we couldn’t finish the session without giving Maisy and Zara one more opportunity to steal the show.

The dogs came charging toward my camera with complete confidence, while Ashley and Zach watched from the background. The result is one of those images that instantly makes people smile. Flying ears, happy faces, and a whole lot of personality.
What I love most about this collection is how well it captures this season for their family. There is excitement, anticipation, laughter, beautiful scenery, and two dogs who are blissfully unaware that their lives are about to change, too.
Before long, Ashley and Zach will be introducing their baby to the world. Until then, they have these photographs to remember the anticipation, the excitement, and this brief moment when they were a family of four preparing to become five.
I can’t wait to see what comes next for them.
Much Love,
Csilla
